Bridal Shoot - A Highlight Of The Modelling Career

Posing in front of the camera in a princess gown is the dream of many models . But as romantic and aesthetic as the resulting shots may seem, the job is just as demanding for the models...

What is the aim of a bridal shoot?

The carefully staged images of a bridal shoot serve to advertise wedding fashion and/or give couples ideas for outfits. For this purpose, the commissioned photographer can shoot individual shots, produce series of images or even work in editorial design.

What is so special about a bridal shoot?

The most distinctive and attractive feature of this type of shoot is, of course, the wedding dress. Whether it's a classic crinoline, a bold cocktail dress or a capricious costume for the bride-actress or bohemian chic with a boutonniere for the male model : the outfit and the movements in it are usually unfamiliar, so you should do a few walking and standing exercises immediately before the wedding shoot. In addition to the clothes, the backdrop can also be a challenge - because depending on the style of their designs, designers often require a very specific concept for the bridal shoot. Whether forest or meadow, beach or barn, castle or bridge: Every location has its pitfalls, which are magnified by a flared skirt or tight-fitting leg dresses. Find out about the planned set in advance and try out a similarly structured location. Last but not least, the wedding shoot is usually a couple shoot. You will find out from the callsheet or on the Prep Day whether the designers are focussing on a man-woman combination or would like to stage girl-to-girl or boy-to-boy, but sometimes only on location. It can happen that shooting partners find each other unappealing - a fact that you as a faked couple must conceal!

How do I prepare for a wedding shoot?

In addition to the external conditions, the emotions portrayed are extremely important for a bridal shoot. The photos should evoke a positive feeling in the viewer and, ideally, inspire them to buy the wedding fashion shown. This works best with a model who radiates joie de vivre and shows how comfortable she feels in her clothes. You should also be able to feel the emotions between the ‘married couple’. It is therefore best to practise in front of the mirror how to convey happiness and joy through body language . During the shoot, you should ask the photographer for feedback and/or ideas on how to showcase the wedding dress. Anything you suggest or offer can help to round off or optimise the photo series - especially if you show that you enjoy your modelling job and radiate a lot of positive energy.
