Modelscout - 24/7 In Search Of New Faces
If you're often out and about in the nightlife and attend events, you've probably already come across them: Model scouts. As a full-time or part-time employee of a model agency, the model scout is always on the lookout for new- face models for jobs and commissions in the fashion, film and event industries. What else is there worth knowing about the job of a model scout?
What does a model scout do?
The main task of scouts is to look for faces, bodies and people and, if necessary, recruit them for a modelling assignment. The model scout usually proceeds as follows: He goes to places where experience shows that there are a lot of people. There he approaches the most suitable candidates personally. This could be on the street, in an ice cream parlour, in a shopping centre or in a club. Scouts are also active online. For example, they seek contact with influencers via social media platforms in order to inspire them to join a modelling agency . Model types in demand include newcomers , best-ager models , child models , classic models and plus-size models - depending on the assignment.
Support and career planning are not part of scouts' tasks
Model scouting is a profession with a clearly defined field of activity: it is exclusively about scouting and discovering new models for trade fairs, events, catwalks, advertising, marketing and other modelling jobs. After a scout has discovered a model, the employees of the modelling agency take care of everything else. Support services during the respective assignments or even the long-term planning of the model's career are not part of the job profile.
How can you recognise reputable model scouts?
Anyone proactively looking for modelling jobs will inevitably come into contact with scouts - whether online or in real life. But how can you recognise whether it's a trustworthy scout or a fake? Good, reputable scouts have in-depth knowledge of the industry. They can answer any questions you have immediately and without contradiction. They also have a business card from a well-known, verifiable modelling agency. Last but not least, they are reserved, i.e. they do not want to photograph you on the spot and will not ask you for confidential information or photos. It should be possible to contact the model scout or a competent model agency employee directly at the agency on weekdays.
A model scout must have these abilities and skills:
As a model scout, you need to be communicative, be able to approach people easily and have excellent fashion knowledge. A model scout should also radiate self-confidence and have a well-groomed appearance. Other key skills are multilingualism and reliability. Important in this context: model scouting is not an apprenticeship. Rather, it is a typical learning-by-doing profession. The only real requirement is to enjoy finding models.
Salary - part-time and full-time
There is no one-size-fits-all answer to how much a model scout earns. The following criteria play a role:
- the size of the agency (the salary is higher at an established agency)
- the weekly working hours (varies between 5 hours per week and up to 60 hours)
- the type of contract (part-time or full-time)
The benchmark for a successful scout is a gross salary of 3,500€ to 5,000€. However, employment on a success basis is also quite common.
